Women in Internet Governance represent a significant change in the approach to this gender inequality.
The inclusion of women in internet governance represents a significant shift in how we address gender inequality. It is based on decades of campaigning by women pioneers in technology and digital rights who realised that different points of view would define the Internet’s future.
Women in Internet Governance became important to form because it was understood that women’s contributions were necessary to define the future of the Internet. The organisation was created with the knowledge that digital policies and governance structures developed with the inclusion of all should help create a better digital world for everyone. The initiation aims to get women fully involved in making decisions about important digital policies, standards, and how the Internet is run. By bringing together different of view and perspectives, WIG hopes to make women’s opinions heard in the discussion about digital policy.
